SAVING ELECTRICY

Saving electricity is one of the things that we as electricity users need to do. Not only is it useful to save on electricity usage costs, but by saving, we can also save the energy we use. Electricity savings need to be done for reasons of equity. Not all Indonesians can use electricity because not all areas are covered by it due to several reasons.

Seeing the condition of Indonesia's electricity, there are still many areas that have not been electrified, or it could be said that there are still many areas that are experiencing an electricity crisis. At the end of 2014, Indonesia's electrification ratio reached 84.35% and has increased to 86.39% this September. Even though it has increased, this ratio is still lower than neighboring countries such as Singapore, which is already 100%, Brunei Darussalam, 99.7%, Thailand, 99.3%, Malaysia, 99%, and Vietnam, 98%. Nationally, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources claims that saving 10% is easier to do than building an energy source of 10%, which is equivalent to 10 Mw and requires funds of IDR 450 trillion.

The choices that can be made by the community are to make efficient use of electricity, turn off electrical equipment that is not used, such as lighting, office computers when they come home from work, and air conditioners. Communities can make savings by using energy-efficient electronic equipment, such as LED lights. According to the government, an 8-watt LED lamp is as bright as a 400-watt incandescent lamp.

Therefore, we need to save energy. Because the higher the consumption of electric power, the higher the CO2 emissions, which can damage the earth's atmosphere, we can reduce the greenhouse effect that causes climate change so as to create a healthier living environment for people around the world.
